As of last Friday the contract between the city of San Diego and a private red light camera firm has expired. It will not be renewed and the cameras have been shut of.
Mayor Bob Filner stated the program reaped the city only a slightly higher revenue than it cost. Also, the data does not show enough facts that prove a decrease in accidents or a raise of safety awareness at intersections where red light cameras have been installed.
