A bill currently working its way through Sacramento could change the approach to red light camera tickets. AB 666, also called the “Devil’s bill” by opponents, specifies the owner of the car would be responsible to pay the red light camera ticket regardless of whether the owner was driving or not. The only exception to this would be to reveal who is driving the car, resulting in the driver having to take responsibility for the ticket.
Basically AB 666 would make car owners “snitch or pay”.
Under current law you don’t have to reveal who is driving the car at the time the red light citation occurred and in LA County it is even safe to ignore a red light camera ticket altogether (exceptions apply).
